This is the first of a series of street sculptures inspired after looking into Marcel Duchamp for my A-Z Of Graphic Language.

Duchamp would create art from ready made objects, by putting them into the context of an art gallery we would look at that object in a new way.

I’m attempting a similar theory in a modern context. This series of sculptures will be used to highlight the amount of large refuse waist there is around London.

THE PROCESS

I went to a variety of ‘large refuse’ bins on council estates in my area and looked for interesting objects that could be used to create something new.

Once I found something interesting in this case some old chairs, I created an abstract sculpture. I had no premeditated idea I just started taping things and letting the object dictate what would happen next.

Then, once finished. I put up a white backdrop typically used in the studio to create a white space.

I took a shot of the sculpture on pure white, which removes the sculpture completely from it’s surroundings and instantly puts it into a new context creating the illusion that perhaps this was shot in a studio or gallery.

Another shot putting it back into context by revealing the white backdrop taped to the brick wall.

Then taking it to a new space to be photographed, finally leaving it in a park just up the road from the estate leaving it behind, for the public to appreciate, steel or destroy.
