Long time no post.. I’ve been working on lots of freelance jobs to pay the bills.
I have plenty of cool projects in the pipeline though! I’ve been asked to contribute along with 49 other creative types to an exhibition and book curated by jjam that will be part of London design week. It’s also open to submissions where the top 50 will be in the book more info at...
Finally I have got round to uploading my entry to the D&AD Student Awards, it won a second place yellow pencil which I am really happy about. I’ve been featured on the LCC blog where they asked me a few questions about the awards and my film go check it here
There is also a bit about the ceremony on the onedotzero blog, which has an embarrassing photo of me with my award. if you want...

Here are the three posters I will be exhibiting at my end of year show at LCC. Though originally I (along with many other students) had much grander plans. Given that we live in a democratic society and we are fortunate to be entitled to freedom of speech I have decided to express my disappointment about how the end of year show is panning out. This may turn out to be quite a rant…

This is the third and final experimental video created for my FMP at London College of Communication. and here comes the blurb to put this into context…

I have finally got round to collating my work into one place. A mix of some new work and some very old that I can’t bring myself to chuck out just yet. It is still being updated, but most of the work I like is on there. Plus I have just upgraded to a Vimeo plus account which means you can see all my videos in HD where ever they may be embedded, like my new website… so go check it out...
Shot on my phone, this is how I filmed the shapes in front of a green screen. For each shape I manually matched up the lighting to correlate with the light in my video shots that I will put the shapes into.
Some screen shots of the finished piece coming soon…

Over Easter I worked on this animation with Jessica Dance to promote her new collection of accessories.
It took about two days to shoot, all the props are made of paper and the set is a replica of Jessica’s real life work space. It was my job to bring it to life through animation and trick you into thinking the paper props really work. The animation will be played on a TV in...

It’s been a while since I’ve posted anything. I have been crazy busy working on my film for D&AD and a whole heap of other course work.
Above is a short test with my new toy. I wanted to see what kind of slow motion footage I could get with it and I’m quite pleased with the result. It’s never going to be as good as shooting at super fast frame rates, but for my budget...

I designed the layout and typeface of this look book for Jessica Dance. The photography in the book is by Ross Trevail.
I’m still finishing off the last few characters in the alphabet for this bespoke font to be used across the rest of Jessica’s promo material. I will be working on an animation with her to promote here latest collection soon.
For the letter Q of my A-Z I have the word questions.
I believe we should never let that six year old with in us die, the age when we are most inquisitive.
Why this, why that?
It fades as we grow older and (in theory) wiser, but to stay wise would mean to always be questioning what we know, in order to adapt to changes and evolve as human beings and creative individuals. We should not take...

For the letter R of my A-Z I have chosen a quote from Robert Browjohn.
Executing it using a process inspired by his work on the Bond title sequences. Projecting the type on to the set intergrates the type with the image much like his quote states.
His notion of people looking at type as image as opposed to just reading it, is something you see a lot of these days and to have that kind of for...
This is for the letter Y in my A-Z. It’s more an experiment then anything else. I produced the audio to coincide with the glitchy nature of the animation.
The word YES is made up of long drinking straws bought from a pound shop.

Finally I get round to posting some new work :)
For the letter S i my A-Z of graphic language I raise the question does style = fart? the statement famously made by one of graphic designs rock stars Stefan Sagmeister.
This statement stuck with me when I was first getting into the world of design. I was confused by it, but at the same time I agreed with it. Almost sticking to it religiously,...
MY HEAD AND FINGERS ARE SORE...
I have been writing a screen play for a film over the last few weeks for my entry to D&AD Student Awards. Which I will be shooting early Feb, to have complete for the entry in mid March. (Sore fingers crossed!)
I will post further updates as it progresses.
As for “real” design work I have been free lancing over the Christmas break, so I’m playing catch up with my uni design...

HUGE/MASSIVE THANK YOU!!! to Digital Creatives blog that have featured me :) pop along to see all the other cool creative peeps they feature click here.
If you have been checking my blog recently you will have noticed a drop in the number of posts ie no posts in a week :) I have been writing a report on becoming a freelancer, which is ironic as I am a freelancer.
That’s been handed in now,...
A HUGE thank you to Point & Anchor for posting my Escapism typodoodle to their blog.
I quickly cobbled together this out of some pieces I had used in a couple of other projects, the anchor was used in a window display and the & was used for a promo flyer and I drew the pointing hand specifically oh and the paper stones where also used with the anchor for the window display.

Now this may be difficult to get across my thinking behind this piece. It is for the letter X of my A-Z and features quotes from the book XXX 30 Porn-Star Portraits by Timothy Greenfield-Sanders.
I want to confuse the senses. Perhaps more for men, as in do you look at the legs that make up the X’s and use your imagination to think about who they belong to and then? Or do you read...
This is my response to the letter P in my A-Z of Graphic Language. I was inspired by stereotypical bedroom posters such as fast cars and classic pin ups.
The equation of Paper + Print = Poster, is missing one factor; Design. It is a kind of joke about how when I am asked to produce a poster for someone they want it printed as soon as possible, completely forgetting about the design...
This will be the front cover of my A-Z of Graphic Language. I used a type face I received for my birthday (if any one knows what it is, please let me know) and my own hand cut typeface (Industrie Sonderbar) which is used in the book for specific titles.
I wanted to use the blocks rather than what the blocks would print, to highlight the traditional craft processes that feature within the book.

This work was inspired by a quote taken from a Kyle Cooper talk at D&AD. When I herd those words, they resonated with me and is now part of my methodology when generating concepts and executing ideas.
With this piece I set up the shot with a large glass jar filled with water and back lit it. That was me setting up the condition in which to experiment. I then went on to experiment with...
The thinking behind this illustration (which I call Typodoodles) is that the lines have quite literally escaped from the canvas. The lines either pull you into the word or the other way round and each viewer can take a different path.

I created this woodblock typeface by cutting each one with a mallet and chisel. I designed the typeface on the computer, but wasn’t content with leaving it there.
After having an induction to woodblock printing, I was inspired to render this type out of wood and hand print it using traditional methods. I found this process so much more satifying then depending on the computer...
V is for Visual Noise.
Something that really grinds my gears is the overwhelming amount of junk mail still being produced today, I’m probably not the only one that has an issue with this.
This image was made up of fliers and junk mail that I picked up over the space of about a month. If you haven’t guessed already, it is supposed to be a wave form of noise.
I intend to...
This is the first of a series of street sculptures inspired after looking into Marcel Duchamp for my A-Z Of Graphic Language.
Duchamp would create art from ready made objects, by putting them into the context of an art gallery we would look at that object in a new way.
I’m attempting a similar theory in a modern context. This series of sculptures will be used to highlight the...
This is perhaps quite a nerdy mac user in joke, but it represents U for Undo as part of my A-Z. Sorry to any PC users if you don’t get this.

For the letter T in my A-Z of Graphic Language, I have chosen perhaps quite an obvious word related to design.
Typography to me is not just a way of presenting words, but also a chance to play with things on a deeper level. Things that the average viewer would be unaware of but to me and people I tell, there is a hidden layer with the choice of typeface I use or design.
This typeface was...
This illustration represents imagination, something I am a huge fan of. Who isn’t?
I used to spend hours daydreaming as a child and would get told off for it. Now I daydream regularly with no one to tell me off.
Having a vivid imagination is something I’m proud of and now where I am able to focus that imagination into pieces of work I use it every day.
